When You Crave Fatty Foods

by Anne-Sophie Reinhardt on November 8, 2016

…simply eat them.

Fat has a very important reason for its existence: it keeps us alive. We need it to take another breath, to move one foot in front of the other, to hug our loved ones and live our dreams.

When we don’t eat fat, we can’t think, feel, work, ovulate (and thus get pregnant), burn calories efficiently, feel pleasure and be our highest self.

So, yes, fat is essential to life.

But what if you constantly crave fatty foods and you feel horrendous about it because a) fat is still bad in your mind, b) you’re terrified of becoming “fat”, c) you don’t feel good when you eat fatty foods, and d) you just don’t know why you always want the pizza, the fried chicken or the cheese fries with a hamburger?

In these instances, your body wants to tell you something important. It wants to tell you that something big is going on and that you need to listen.

Your body might want to tell you that you are indeed way too low in EFAs (essential fatty assets) and that you are a chronic dieter who needs to deal with the toxic beliefs around food and finally start eating nourishing and real foods again. Your body might want to tell you that you need more warmth, pleasure or softness in your life. You might need to eat until you’re full and not stop when your “caloric maximum” is achieved. You might need to end a relationship or leave your soul-sucking job behind. You might need to own who you truly are. Or you might just need to find other ways of feeling grounded, knowing that you matter and that you’re not invisible.

Fat is soft, it’s warm, it yields. And the craving for it sends you clear signals that something’s not going right.

Sure, sometimes you might just be in a really crappy mood and you need some protein and fat to ground yourself and feel like you’re going to be OK again. And sometimes, a kebab, pizza, cheeseburger or French fries is simply wickedly great for the soul.

Listen to your body. Really listen to it. And then respond with the right actions that’ll take you to the next step in your wonderful life.
